Dealing with an accident
Although they are surprisingly rare, accidents do happen occasionally. If you’re unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident, our guide below covers all the key steps required both by law and by your insurance company.
- Stay calm and avoid arguments.
- For insurance reasons, don't admit any responsibility.
- Remain at the scene, and note down any names and addresses of witnesses.
- Assess your car for damage before driving away.
- Write down any relevant details – the date and time of the accident, details of the location, weather conditions and any other information that you consider a contributory factor.
- If you have a camera, photograph the scene and any visible damage.
- Call your insurance company - this is a legal requirement.
